5 Great Data Engineering Channels

Seattle Data Guy (Ben Rogojan)

Seattle data guy is definitely the most productive part-time youtuber (He was an ex-Amazon, ex-Facebook and is a data engineering/science consultant). He’s been generating high quality videos around data engineering consistently not only talking about the truth of data engineer career, roadmap, but also the skills and the latest toolings that you won’t feel like falling behind the new tech stack (or the modern tech stack) if you are consistently waching his video. At least you’ll get the sense of what the tool is and know the trend.

He also has a Newsletter that talks about more on the data strategy for the startup company which I think it will be helpful to shape your mindset with a broader perspective.

Zach Wilson

Zach Wilson is my all time favorite! He’s absolutely a superstar in the data engineering world! He has a fantastic background (ex-Facebook, ex-Netflix, and now a tech lead at Airbnb). From his youtube channel and many interviews he shared lot’s of career advises, roadmaps, basic and advanced skills, tools, technical interviews, and mental health.

He used to be a software enginner and data engineer at Netflix and he shares a lot of inisghts about the distributed data pipeline in both software engineering and data engineering’s perspectives that always makes me excited to listen.

He posts a lot on his linkedin around data engineering and the mental health. Definitely check it out and follow him.

Andreas Kretz

Andreas Kretz is the OG data engineering youtuber for sure! The video above is the one that got me intrigued in the data engineering world two yeas ago and that’s the reason why I made a decision to become a data engineer.

He’s pretty good at explaining the complex data pipeline in simple words. His data engineering cookbook was written two years ago and it’s still worth taking a look. He is a full-time data engineering coach and provides many courses & coaching.

E-Learning Bridge (Shashank Mishra)

Shashank Mishra is a data engineer based out of India (ex-Amazon, ex-McKinsey). One day I found him by bumping into one of his interview video with another data enginner. I really like his interview video so that I can learn from others to make sure I am on the right track as for the data engineering career.

I also like Shashank sharing a lot of learning resources regarding sql, database, python, cloud, cron jobs, and all the stuff that’s related to data engineering. You can also follow his roadmap, it would be very helpful.

Darshil Parmar

Darshil Parmar is kind of new to me but I think his youtube channel also has a lot of leanrning resources, interviews, and tips on technical interview. I am expecting to see more contents from him.

JOMA TECH (Wait.. BONUS!!)

JOMA (actually Jonathan) is a full-time youtuber now (he just quit his software engineer job at google. Before that he was an ex-Facebook as a data scientist). He used to be my favorite youtubers (and Tech Lead lol) Seriously, he is not in the data engineering field but he used to share a lot of content regarding machine learning and data stuff when he was at facebook.

He is so good at programming and acting (wait what?) and he’s one of the funniest guy I know in the world. Damn he’s so talented that he blurred the line so well between an engineer and a comedian. 🤣🤣
